Week 6, Term 4 2020 - 10th November 2020
Principal's Address - Week 6
APRE's Reflection
Dear Parents,
For the last couple of weeks I have been working with our student leaders to prepare the Remembrance Day service. We watched a video of school children commenting about peace and they decided to make our own St Mary’s version.
While I was compiling their recorded clips it was one of the magic times in teaching where I was so proud of the leaders who had taken time out of their own play, and the responses our students gave when asked “What is peace?” and “Why is it important?”
The words of this beautiful reflection written by a Year Two student also show how even the youngest among us can inspire us all to respect one another unconditionally. May we continue to care for all those we meet and spread positivity.
God created all of us.
That means He is Our Father and all the other children are our brothers and sisters.
We are all different and that doesn’t even matter.
Sometimes we have fights but we make up with each other.
We all love each other no matter what!
“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.” {Kahlil Gibran}
As a school, we will commemorate Remembrance Day with a Prayer Service on Wednesday 11th November at 11am in the School Hall.

RAP Launch
Many thanks to Mrs Terri Leotta (APRE), Mrs Karlie Tatchell (Regional Indigenous Liaison Officer) and Mrs Fiona AhWong (St Mary’s Indigenous Education Coordinator) for their efforts with our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) launch last Friday. All in attendance will attest that it was a great event. From the Acknowledgement of Country (see the video below) to the singing of ‘We are Australian’, it was certainly a moving ceremony. Our RAP will provide a framework for our school to support the national reconciliation movement, and ensure that St Mary’s has a clear focus on indigenous perspectives across the curriculum. Please see a copy of our RAP below.
